GCC – Our History
Gulf Christian College (GCC) is an independent, co-educational Christian School located in Normanton, in the Gulf district of Queensland.
As of 2026, the College caters for students attending Prep to Year 12.
GCC has been operating in the community for 40 years and was originally started by the Normanton Assembly of God Church (renamed Normanton Christian Fellowship) with classes held in the church building.
1986
School opened
School commenced with classes held in the Church building.
1997
College Facilities
In 1997 the current College facilities were built creating an administration building, library, staff kitchen, toilet block, two upstairs classrooms, an undercover area as well as a playground and sandpit play area.
2005
Admin Extension
In 2005 an extension was made to the administration building creating a combination art room and home economics room.
2011
Library & Resource Centre
A Library & Resource Centre with the latest in computer technology was completed early 2011 with the official opening in April that year. Extensions to the administration building and two accommodation units for staff were completed shortly after. The College celebrated its 25th birthday on Saturday 15th October, 2011.
2014
New Prep Classroom
A new Prep classroom was opened in May 2014, with additional playgrounds and turfed areas.
2015
Middle School
Middle School commenced at Gulf Christian College in 2015.
2016
Science Lab / Classroom
In 2016, our Middle School building (Stage 1) was completed with a purpose-built science laboratory/classroom and a manual arts classroom designed to cater for our students from Years 7 to 9.
2017
Middle School Stage 2 & Sports Facility
In 2017, the Middle School Stage 2 was completed, encompassing two classrooms and a Library, as well as a Home Economics room. The existing library was converted into a primary classroom.
The Fred Edwards Sporting Facility was also completed on land across the road from the College. This included covered ball courts, storage and toilet facilities. This facility significantly enhanced the sporting and recreational options for our students.
2019
Purchase of staff homes
During 2019-2021, four additional staff houses were purchased to accommodate our teaching staff and their families.
2020
Administration and Primary Classroom extensions
The update and extension of our administration building provided additional offices and a larger staff room to accommodate growth. Primary classrooms upstairs were extended into the verandah spaces, providing larger rooms. This year saw the development of our Sports Oval beside our Sporting Facility.
2022
Language / Cultural Centre and Learning Enrichment
This building has enabled the College to significantly invite community into the College to embed local language and culture into our curriculum. Our Learning Enrichment Department is also located in this building.
2025
Senior School
The College has successfully been accredited to include Year 10 and Year 11 in 2025, with the introduction of Year 12 in 2026.
